EXPERIENCES OF MARGINALIZATION, STIGMA, DISCRIMINATION The fourth indicator in the key informant interview is about experiences of marginalization, stigma and discrimination of women fisher folks in their daily lives in their community. Income of the Women Fisher Folks A great majority (67%) of the Women Fisher folks are earning enough for their basic needs. This implies that they are capable in providing for their basic needs because of the works that they are doing. In addition, women fisher folk stated that they are very tight with their budget or “pinagkakasya nalang” so that they can suffice their basic needs. Moreover, many (33%) of them also stated that they do not have enough earnings for their basic needs. This infers that they are having a hard time to suffice their basic needs and that they do not have extra earnings if there is an emergency. Many of the women fisher folk is surviving because of “pangungutang” and “tulong mula sa mga magulang at kapatid”. On the other hand, based on the result of the interview all (100%) of them said that they are eating thrice a day by tightening their budget and borrowing money from others. This suggests that they are giving importance in feeding themselves and their family. As one women fisher folk states “Nakakakain naman ng tatlong beses kahit umutang na basta may makakain hindi ko pababayaan ang mga anak ko.” Evaluation on the Assistance provided by the barangay, government and government agencies In terms of assisting the women fisher folk when they are inquiring or availing about the benefits for them, almost all (93%) of them indicated that the barangay are the most accommodating among the three most especially their Punong Barangay, Mr. Gil B. Gatchalian. They described their Punong Barangay as helpful and have long patience in entertaining their different inquiries.
