The succeeding pages contain the thirty-five cases studied for one to three visits (depending on the degree of willingness to participate in the study at hand and extent of openness to divulge and share experiences as a VAW survivor) in their respective communities. Each case study has a summary of the data given by the survivor herself, followed by a brief analysis based on the theme of her over-all responses. Case Studies of 35 Survivors Survivor 1 S1 is from Mercedes, who has been living together with her current partner for 11 months now. She could no longer recall the specific date or month when her partner started emotionally hurting her. He has never inflicted pain upon her physically, but she has been constantly threatened with being left or abandoned for another woman, and insisted that their child is not his. She kept on thinking what she lacked as a woman, and what her faults and failures were. “Nagpapakumbaba ako. Halos gabi-gabi akong umiiyak sa kakaisip kung paano na kami (I have humbled myself. Almost every night I think how we may survive),” she sobbed. “Alam ko naman na kaya kong buhayin ang anak namin at nand’yan naman ang pamilya ko (I also know that I can manage raising my child and my family is there).” “Magtrabaho ako para buhayin ko ang anak ko sa lahat ng makakaya ko. Pero nung una, lumapit talaga ako sa barangay nagbakasakaling magbago ang isip nya (I will work to raise my child to the best that I can.
