GBV CASE IN REGION III
A 34 years old solo parent has suffered economic abuse from her foreign
husband. According to the victim, she and her foreign husband are currently de
facto separated and they have an ongoing divorce proceeding. Last December
2018, her husband told her that he never loves the victim and that he can no
longer protect their child. Eventually, the victim’s husband decided to rent their
apartment and forced the victim and their child to leave their conjugal house
and go to the Philippines.
On January 2019, the victim’s husband finally abandoned them and leave
the victim and their child with no any financial support. The victim and her child
had no choice but to leave the foreign country and go to the Philippines as the
victim’s husband eventually failed to renew their apartment and she has no other
resources to sustain the same.
Beginning January 30, 2020, her husband has not given any financial
support and the victim has to rely on her family in the Philippines to survive. The
victim is trying her best to find a job but due to the economic impact of the
COVID-19 pandemic, she finds it hard to get a job. She further stated that she also
suffered sexual harassment and threats from her husband in 2019.
The Commission rendered legal assistance in filing a case and legal
counselling to the victim. CHR-GEWHRC sent an email to the victim in order to
arrange a schedule for on call counselling.
