The Committee considered the combined fifth and sixth periodic report of the Philippines (CEDAW/C/PHI/5-6) at its 747th and 748th meetings, on 15 August 2006 (see CEDAW/C/SR.747 and 748). The Committee’s list of issues and questions is contained in CEDAW/C/PHI/Q/6, and the responses of the Philippines are contained in CEDAW/C/PHI/Q/6/Add.1. Introduction 2. The Committee expresses its appreciation to the State party for its combined fifth and sixth periodic report, which, although overdue, was in compliance with the Committee’s guidelines for the preparation of periodic reports and was candid and informative. The Committee commends the State party for its written replies to the list of issues and questions raised by the pre-session working group and for the oral presentation and further clarifications offered in response to the questions posed orally by the Committee. 3. The Committee commends the State party for its high-level delegation, headed by the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which included the Chairperson of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women and representatives of the Department of Health and the Department of Labour and Employment. The Committee expresses its appreciation for the frank and constructive dialogue held between the delegation and the members of the Committee. Positive aspects 4. The Committee congratulates the State party on having ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention in November 2003 and on having accepted the amendment to article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention concerning the meeting time of the Committee, also in November 2003. 06-48052 (E) 060906 *0648052*
