The Committee considered 1tem 6 of the agenda at its 12th to 21st and 23rd meetings, held on 2 to 5, 8, 10 and .Ll August 1983. 36. The Committee had before it, tor considerat1on, 13 in1tial reports which had been received by the Secretariat in accordance with article 18 of the Convention trom the folloWing States parties Ilsted 1n the order received: German Democrat1c Republic, Mexico, Hungary, Cuba, Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, Phl.Lipplnes, Norway, Swecen, Panalna, Egypt, Ukralnian bov1et Soclallst Republlc, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Rwanda. The Government of Norway had requestec that ltS report be cons1cered 1n .L~~4. 37. In connect1on with agenda 1tem 6, the Chairperson suggested that those countr1es WhlCh had subm1tted the1r reports, and Wh1Ch hac sent a representative from their capitals to present the reports, should be glven pr1ority. 38. The Comm1ttee agreed, 1n accordance w1th rule 49 of 1tS rules of procedure, to lnv1te the representatives of the States part1es present at the meeting to make an oral presentation of the reports, to be followed by questions from members of the Committee. The representat1ves were: Ms. Larisa, M. Balabanova of the Byeloruss1an Sov1et Soc1al1st Republ1c, Mr. D1etmar Hucke ot the German Democratlc Republic, Mr. Miguel RU1z-CabaBas Izquierdo of Mexico, Ms. Rarin Lindgren ot Sweden, Ms. Jaroslavna N1ko.Laevna Shevchenko ot the Ukra1n1an Sov1et Soc1a11st Republic, Ms. Tatiana N1kolayeva of the Union of Soviet Social 1St Republics and Ms. Olga Finlay Saavedra of Cuba. 39. The fOllowing, arranged on a country-by-country basls according to the sequence followed by the Committee, reflects a summary of the introduct1on ot the report by the representative of the State party concerned, of views expressed and of questions raised and observations made by the members of the Committee on the reports of the States parties concerned. It also covers, when given, the substance of the repl1es by the representat1ves of the States part1es present at the meet1ng, or as the case may be, indicates that additional information will be subm1tted in writing to the Secretary-General or glven as supplementary 1nformat1on for the next report, owing to the fact that not all of the 1nfqrmation requested was readily ava11ab1e to the representative at the t1me ot the seSS1on. The representatives of States parties, in replying to the questions asked by the members of the Committee, gave as comprehens1ve repl1es as WaS poss1b.Le under the c1rcumstances, glving due regard to the short period of time available to them ana the fact that many deta1ls were not readily ava11able.
