GBV CASE IN REGION IV-A
The victim, who is a member of Formal Economy Worker sector was
physically hurt by her own brother. According to the victim, her neck was
strangled by her brother, was twice pinned against the wall and was almost being
punched by him should her youngest brother did not stop their brother from doing
so.
The said incident was reported by the victim before the police in Region IVA but was taken as a mere siblings’ fight and thus referred to the barangay
concerned in order for her brother to make a written statement that he will no
longer curse and hurt his sister. The victim stated that she requested to the police
if she can obtain a medico legal as she is certain that there is an injury in her neck
and the police should have taken seriously the physical violence that she
reported. She further stated that she does not feel safe in their own house
considering that she is with the person who psychologically and physically hurts
her and since the region is under community quarantine, she has limited capacity
to protect herself.
CHR-GEWHRC communicated with the victim and learned that there was
an agreement made between her and her brother. As a result of inaction of the
police station in Region IV-A, the case is also referred to CHR-NCR in order to write
correspondence to the said police station and its Women and Children Protection
Center (WCPC) reminding them of their duty and the importance of responding
to cases/reports of Gender-Based Violence.
