COVID-19 AND WOMEN FISHERFOLKS
Like many of the marginalized sectors, women fisherfolks are among the worst hit by the
economic impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. With a substantial number of fisherfolks already
living below poverty line, suffering from reduced catch, and constrained by restrictive government
policies and absence of support, the economic havoc brought about by the pandemic has rendered
fisherfolks, especially women fisherfolks further vulnerable and marginalized. Thus, a Focus
Group Discussion was conducted as there but untold stories, with the many fishing communities
in the country and the months long quarantine. There are many stories on the ground on the impact
of the pandemic on especially women fisherfolks.
