So far Turkey's report has not been sent to UNESCO. We cannot therefore comment on it. The figures cited in the World Education Report 1995 showed in that year Turkish women as representing 76 per cent of the illiterate population. This was an increase; in 1980 they represented 73 per cent. The same report states that girls and boys are almost equal in primary education. But this equality does not exist at the secondary level. V. CONSIDERATION OF SPECIAL ARTICLES BY THE SIXTEENTH SESSION A. Article 2 30. Article 2 of the Convention requests States to adopt constitutional and legislative measures establishing the principle of equality between men and women, prohibiting all discrimination against women and instituting legal protection for women against any violation of this principle and any act of discrimination. It also requests States to take all necessary measures to modify or abolish any laws or regulations which discriminate against women and to eliminate any practice which constitutes such discrimination. /...
