“Siyempre naman dahil una, karapatan ko ‘yun bilang asawa at amali na
iwan n’ya kami at ipagpalit sa iba. Kung siguro mayaman lang akoa at
maraming pera baka kinasuhan ko na sya nga dultery para madala siya t
bigyan ng hustisya ang pang-iiwan niya sa amin (Of course because it is my
right and it is wrong for him to leave us and choose to be with another.
Perhaps if I were rich and I had a lot of money, I would have filed charges
for adultery so that he will realize and justice be done over his
abandonment of us).”
Researchers’ Observations: S5 is badly hurt and economically burdened in
supporting their children. They were aged 14 and 15 when he left them.
While there was no physical violence inflicted, the economic violence has
ben very tough for her as she raised the girls on her own with her meager
income.
Analysis: There was partial healing of wounds in this case of S5, with her
two daughters now grown-up as past the teenage years. However, the
abandonment by her wound has not yet fully healed. From her narrative,
while she is willing to voluntarily advance her complaint, she is conscious
of legal expenses.
Survivor 6
S6 is from Pasonanca, who has been living together with her husband for
22 years and they had a child whose age is 22 years old. The first incident
she had experienced the violence was 2017 when her partner shouted at
her. “Ya grita le comigo cuando ya abla yo ay buta le el basura (He shouted
at me when I asked him to throw the trash),” and her husband shouted at
her, “Sinverguenza (Scoundrel)!”
She was threatened with being shamed before anyone, when they had a
family get together and she was scolded, quarreled, shamed or fought by
his parents and relatives. Nevertheless, her partner still supports them
financially.
Her first thoughts when the incident happened was to file a case against
him. “Planta era yo caso (I would have thought of filing a case),” and S6
stated, “Pero ya pensa yo de mi anak y futuro de amun (But I just had to
think of my child and our future).”
