Weeks after their wedding she experienced disturbing instances from her
partner’s father who would kick me in the legs or at times, her feet while
she was manually doing the laundry. Sometimes he would just pinch her
at the side of her body. At times they would tease their child till they
would cry and cry. In January 2018 she told her partner about these
incidents and he got angry, and he started hurting her. He defended his
father and other family members. This led to frequent quarrels and he
would slap her face for her answering back and for her nagging to not let
his father touch her and her children.
She reported to the pólice which in turn, following initial investigation,
brought her to the WCC.
Analysis: The experiences on violence that Survivor 2 went through
began when the father of her partner was personally picking on her, and
the physical touching though in a teasing manner, was unbecoming of a
supposed father-in-law as the latter pinched her on her sides, sometimes
near her breasts. The protection offered to her by the WCC was from her
husband physical violence, and from his father physical violence that
might lead to sexual violence.
WCC Survivor 3
WCC Survivor 3, 27 years old, a believer of Islam, hails from Cabaluay, and
mother of 3 children. Her live-in partner of 8 years slapped her face,
pulled her hair, and hurt her in her forearms. Her partner was a regular
bettor and local gambler, like his father who interfered with their financial
concerns. She got a medico-legal and reported to the police. When he loses
in gambling, he would physically be violent towards her.
However, she had to return to the house as she was concerned with the
welfare of the 3 children.
Analysis: Muslim as she is, Survivor 3 bore the pain of the violence as she
understood her role as wife and mother in the household. However, the
physical injuries she sustained spoke of the intensity of the violence and
would not even indicate an ounce of respect for her womanhood and her
motherhood.
WCC Survivor 4

living together with her common-law husband at Talontalon barangay, this
city when she was twelve years old. She is mother of three: a 3-year old
