GBV CASE IN NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION
Maricole Ramos was arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Division of the
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for prostituting herself and other two (2) girl
victims in an apartelle located at Quezon City. One of the girl victims is a minor and
both victims are from Caloocan City.
Ramos admitted that she convinced via online the two girl victims to prostitute
themselves in exchange for P 3,000.00. On the contrary, the girl victims claimed that
they were not aware that they were supposed to prostitute themselves and were told
by Ramos that they will just go someplace. It was later discovered that the two victims
ran away from their home in Caloocan City and that their parents were not aware that
they are going to Quezon City. Ramos reasoned out that her family has no more food to
eat and that her family is not listed to receive the government subsidy under the Social
Amelioration Program, the reason why she committed the said crime. Consequently,
she was charged for the crime of Human Trafficking.
NBI advised all parents to closely monitor their children most especially their
daughters as there are many unscrupulous persons who may lure their daughters to
make an income during the COVID-19 pandemic. It further advised all barangays to be
more stringent in granting a quarantine pass to its respective residents. It came to their
knowledge that one of the victims was able to secure the said quarantine pass despite
the fact that she is not the one in charge of buying essential goods for her family.
