GBV CASE IN SITIO CALLEJON, BARANGAY LABANGON, CEBU CITY A video went viral on social media showing a nurse who is a resident of Sitio Callejon in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City was being discriminated against by some male volunteers of the said barangay, who are in charge of manning the entrance of the said sitio. As shown in the video, the said nurse was not allowed to enter Sitio Callejon for the sole reason that she is working in a hospital. She pleaded to enter said sitio stating further that she just came from work and was tired so she wanted to go home and take some rest. However, the said male volunteers told the nurse that since she is working in a hospital, residents of Sitio Callejo are worried that they are at high risk of being infected of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). They added that since there are new 22 positive cases of COVID-19, they have more reason to be concerned of their health and safety. On the other hand, the said nurse in her defense told the said male volunteers that considering that she is a frontliner, she is exempt from the quarantine protocols. The Local Government of Barangay Labangon under the leadership of P/B Victoria Buendia intervened and eventually the said female nurse was allowed to go home. Meanwhile, the said nurse already filed a complaint before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), assisted by some lawyers from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Cebu Chapter and with the assistance of the Cebu City Legal Office. The subject GBV case is being monitored by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region VII.
