Perspectives of Women Fisher Folks about the Importance of Water In terms of the perspective of women fisher folks about the importance of water in their lives, a great majority (66%) of them value water-resources because it serves as their source of income. This implies that water-resources helps them sustain their daily needs. The implication is supported by the statement of Respondent A, “Importante kasi nagiging source of income ito.” It is important because it is the one of the source of our income) Conversely, for some (27%) women fisher folks’ water-resources does not only serve as their source of income but it also serves as their source of food. Respondent B supported this result with her statement “Pang-kain and pang-ulam namin” (for food and viand). Also, a very few (7%) number of women fisher folks perceive water-resources as their source of income, source of food, and also their lounge area. This means that water-resources for the women fisher folks of Samara is not just their source of food, source of income and/or source of employment, for them it is the source of their way to survive daily. Supporting to this is the statement of Respondent C “Pang-kain, panghugas, pangluto, pinagkakakitaan, pangkain, pang-paaral sa dalawang anak”. (For food, for washing of dishes, for cooking, for source of income, for food, for school support of her two children). Duties of Women Fisher Folks In terms of the duties of women fisher folks within their household premises, the women fisher folk in the community does household chores such as taking care of their family through cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry, and gardening. This implies that the women fisher folks’ role in the community and in their respective houses are similarly alike when it comes to their duties and responsibilities as a wife, a mother and sometimes as a grandmother. Further, Respondent D stated “Nagluluto ako ma’am inaasikaso ko asawa ko, anak ko inihahanda itto baon nila, naglilinis po ako ma’am tapos naglalaba, naghahalaman” (I cook ma‟am, I take care of my husband and son, I prepare their food, I clean the house do the laundry and gardening). 7 | Page
