Food security is an important consideration as an indirect effect of health affected climate changes
that may lead to malnutrition. A food balance analysis of the municipality in the CLUP20
recommended a slight diversion of agricultural production concentration from rice and corn to other
agricultural products such as fruit trees, assorted vegetables whose demand in the market is high
and whose buying price is higher compared to the former.
It has to be considered also that irrigation facilities are lacking as such and they are thus limited to 2
crops/yr yield. This contributes to the earlier data of 1,561 (48.12%) HHs living below the food
threshold; 237 (12.41%) Child/Children are malnourished as of 2006 PDMS data. Note that
requirements as of 2011 has decreased for rice and slightly increased for corn giving them a deficit.
While this does not seem to be a corrective mechanism, out-migration to the city is a consideration.
