Balilihan
Balilihan is a 4th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines. Balilihan is located 22
kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City via Cortes (thru CPG North Avenue) and 19.7 kilometers
northeast via Corella (thru J.A. Clarin Street). It holds the fourth (4th) largest land mass of the
province, having 15,022 hectares/150.22 square km of its land area. It has 31 Barangays.15
It is bounded in the north by the Municipality of Catigbian, in the Northeast by the Municipality of
Batuan, in the East by the municipality Sevilla, in the South by the
Municipality of Sikatuna and Corella, in the Southwest by the
Municipality of Cortes and in the West and Northwest by the
Municipality of Antequera where the famous Abatan River served as
the common boundary of the two municipalities.16 The Abatan river
traverses or has tributaries along our ongoing intervention sites. This
becomes significant as it is a natural resource for health purposes as
well as a potential hazard in the event of increase in over flow and
river volume and surges during storms and flooding amongst
riverbank barangay populations.
According to survey, it has a population of 17, 131 (2007 NSCB) / 18, 380 (2008 Health Survey) people
and 9,176 registered voters as for May 2010 elections. It has 3, 101 (2000 NSO count) household, with
an average household size of 5. In recent field work, we gathered that health service providers and
