Analysis: S27 has manifested signs of insecurity in her statements
regarding her day-to-day experiences with her common-law husband.
While she stated that she has trust that the barangay authorities would
help her, she has tendencies to express her fear of being left to attend to
the children and spend for all living expenses.
Survivor 28
S28 is from Sta. Maria who has been living together with her partner for 3
years and she had a 1-year old kid. She can no longer recall when she
experienced the first violence but it happens many times. She was slapped,
sometimes shouted at her whenever her partner is angry and insulted.
Most of the time the parents of his partner would tolerate him.
She was willing to separate with her partner and never think twice
because she knows that she will get hurt if she just let things happen again.
“Si, ya anda gat yo na barangay (Yes, I really went to the barangay
[office]),” S28 said, but clarified, “Ya anda lang yo na barangay reclama
para alegra man separtahan (I just went to the barangay to arrange for
the separation).”
Asked if she would file a case against him for VAW being a woman, S28
stated “Si, siempre. Pensa tu un año pa lang di amon anak pero bien
manada experiencia ya pasa. Sabe man tambien yo onde corre cay sabe yo
tiene kami rights maga mujer (Yes, of course. Just think, our child is still
one year old but has already gone through a lot [referring to the child’s
having witnessed the domestic violence that has transpired]).”
Researchers’ Observations: S28 has mustered a lot of courage for her
decisión to break up ties with her former partner. Her child’s trauma is
what triggered her to seek separation.
Analysis: While S28 is identified as a survivor of physical, psychological,
emotional, and economic violence, in her succeeding interviews she has
revealed more of her having more concern on her child’s pain and trauma
whenever the father was around.
