did not like what she said. S22 did not reveal all information to the focal person, but just reported the recent incident. Analysis: S22 speaks of pain and her want to end the marriage. In all three visits, however, she also speaks of second chance as she does not want the marriage to be completely disolved. S22 is just hopeful, as she is concerned of her child’s future. Survivor 23 S23 is from Sta Maria, she has a live-in partner for 8 years but got separated. They have two kids, aged 2 years old and 4 years old. She can no longer recall the specific date or month when her partner started physically and emotionally hurt her. She experienced being slapped in the face, shouted at, insulted at with expletives, mocked, jeered and laughed at in front of children, relatives and friends. Also she was threatened with a cut-off from financial support. She just kept on thinking to be patient for the sake of her children every time she was abused. S23 not for a moment felt alone and immediately went to report the incident to the barangay. She would have the courage to report again if her partner does this again, “Opo, kung sumusobra na siya (Yes, if he becomes too much).” Asked if she would have legal support, would she file a case against him for VAW being a woman, she stated “Opo naman, kasi alam kong may kakampi ako (Yes, certainly, because I know I have an ally).” Researchers’ Observations: S23 has long experienced psychological violence, with occasional physical violence. Her triggering point was the threat to end the financial support. Analysis: S23 has already developed (Psychologically/Emotionally) Battered Women Syndrome which is manifested by her responses on the frequent verbal attacks on her personality as a woman and wife. She went through physical violence from time to time and she has been tolerant of all these. She however, manifested her fear for no monetary support in view of her inability to earn money herself for her and the children’s survival. 53
