Researchers’ Observations: S18 in her early years of marriage has suffered from psychological abuse and as time went by she has grown accustomed to the verbal arguments and the verbal abuse, that is, getting insulted. It was also in early years that she has been a victim of physical violence, but the slaps on her face and the occasional boxing punches she gets have gone unnoticed. Analysis: S18 is a survivor of physical and psychological violence from her husband of 27 years. She has regarded the many years of violence as ordinary, as part of marriage life. She has thought that the violence only occurred in June of 2020 when she a knife was thrown at her that wounded her face, as a bladed weapon was already involved. The use of the bladed weapon drove her to report her husband to the pólice. Survivor 19 S19 is from Tumaga, who is not married but living in with her partner for 6 years. Thay had 3 children: 2 boys and a girl. She experienced the incident of violence just this year before the pandemic. He kicked her until she got hit by the refrigerator. He shouted at her many times and insulted her with expletives even in front of their children. She was threatened to be cut-off from financial support because he had another woman. She has been scolded, shamed, and quarrelled by her mother-in-law. She has been thinking of separating her husband. “S’yempre naisip ko ang mga anak ko. Para sa’n pa? Hindi naman sila minamahal ng tatay nila (Of course I thought of my children. What for? They aren’t anyway loved by their father).” Asked whether she had intention to file charges in court against her husband she responded, “Noong una, oo, kasi wala akong pamilya dito; ako lang mag-isa sa Zamboanga pero alam ko na may batas naman (At first, yes, because I don’t have family here; I am alone in Zamboanga but I know there’s the law).” “’Di niya na magagawa ‘yun kasi di ko na talaga siya babalikan siguro aalis na lang ako at mga anak ko (He can’t anymore do [the violence] again because I no longer am going back to him, perhaps I would son go away with my children).” “Nagreport ako sa barangay at police, para turuan ng leksyon at para din sa safety ko at nag-file ako ng BPO [Barangay Protection Order](I reported at the barangay and pólice, that a lesson be taught [to him] and also for my safety, I filed a BPO [Barangay Protection Order).” 49
