Situationer of Women Fisherfolks i. In Cotabato Province, women fisherfolks are engaged in the selling of fish in the market and doing post-harvest like drying and tilapia lamayo, while in Sarangani Province, the kinds of fishing are hook and line, gill net, Fish Aggregating Device (FAD), motorized and non-motorized boat. The number of fisherfolks are almost the same since their children are into fishing as well and most of these fisherfolks are below the poverty level. iii. In Cotabato Province, it is the lack of capital while in Sarangani Province, most of the fisherfolks are under-educated (elementary level only) and they don’t have skills to look for other jobs and if they do, they work as laborers or as construction workers. Further, they also experience low catch and high production cost, i.e. fuel, ice, gears, etc., and unstable selling price of the fish especially during this pandemic. In South Cotabato, it’s the high cost of feeds (aquaculture), shortage of supply of fingerlings/crablets (bangus and crabs).
