Memorandum for the Petitioners |122 harm. So I was just going to start off by looking at the sustainable development goals... . This addresses the health question and it shows from a paper that was cited in the reports, [Ana Maria] VicedoCabrera and co-authors looked at the balance between the number of people dying from extreme cold on the left and the number of people dying from extreme heat on the right and how that balance changed between present day conditions, one point five degrees (1.5°) of warming, and what’s shown here between one point five degrees (1.5°) and two degrees (2°) of warming. So we are asking what are the avoided impacts of limiting moving to one point five degrees (1.5°) compared to allowing warming to rise to two degrees (2°) because of course the brief of this report was to try and say what's the benefit of limiting warming to one point five degrees (1.5°). XXX We see a greater prevalence of increased heat deaths due to hot conditions, then reduced cold deaths due to cold conditions, which is understandable. [The] Philippines is a warm country. It's probably not a country where there are very many deaths due to extreme cold. You can also see, and this is also representative in the Philippines. big range of uncertainty in the net impact. That's quite a But we are starting to be able to quantify the net impact of different levels of warming on human health and specifically the most extreme manifestation of human health human mortality. ... XXX ... Unfortunately the Philippines is one of those countries that is projected to actually experience significant reductions in economic growth at both one point five (1.5) and two degrees (2°) of warming. So even at one point, even going from the current level of warming to one point five degrees (1.5°) of warming is projected to significantly impact the economic development of the Philippines. So that's focused on the question of whether there is harm. I've given you two (2) examples of documentable harm from the rise in global temperatures that's attributable to these emissions. ... XXX ATTY. MAYO-ANDA: Thank you, and what do you think is the significance of that study to this current Inquiry? DR. ALLEN:
