In earlier years, there were higher numbers of women who had sought
refuge under ther WCC, as per recommendation of the CSWD Officer and
social workers att.ending or evaluating the situation of the women who
come to them. At the start of this study, however, the women were about
to be sent home to their barangays due to the lockdowns that made them
apprehensive on their respective domestic situations. Their respective
partners were strongly advised by the social workers and the pólice
designated to look after every against committing another act of violence.
The first interviews for these case study were held at the center, and
succeeding interviews were at their respective homes in their barangays.
The succeeding pages contain abstracts of the case studies of the survivors
under the custody of the CSWDO-WCC.
WCC Survivor 1
Case 1 is 38 years old, a Roman Catholic, a Bicolana, and who lived along
Veterans Avenue. She has been legally married for eight years since she
was 17 years old. Within the 8 years of living together, they had two
children a girl (now 20 years old) and a boy (now 17 years old and living
with her mother). She worked overseas that they may have better income.
However, she learned that her husband had another woman and he was
not properly spending the money she sent for the family. When she
reached 25, they broke up.
When she was 35 years old, she entered into a second relationship while in
Manila, however, without the benefit of marriage. It has been two years
already however they while they would have had a baby, she had a
miscarriage here in Zamboanga. Unable to return overseas to work, the
partner’s family abused her economically, making her spend on them,
psychologically, insulting and shaming her for not supporting his sibling
who is confined at the hospital as a mental ward patient, and physically,
with him slapping her face, hurting and mauling WCC Survivor 1.
Analysis: The social workers at the Center were helping WCC Survivor 1 in
processing her papers to leave the city, and be back with her mother and
children in Manila. She is adamant in leaving Zamboanga City, reflective
of her desire to lead a new life without her boyfriend.
WCC Survivor 2
WCC Survivor 2 is 24 years old, a Roman Catholic, resident of Sta. Maria.
She has been married on September 2017, and has now two daughters, a 3year-old and a 1-year-and-3-month-old infant.
