Survivor 29 S29 is from San Roque who has been married for 15 years and she has 5 children aged 5, 8, 11, 14 and 16 years old. It was Christmas Noche Buena when she first experienced the violence. Her husband got mad at her because she was not able to go home early, waiting for her to cook food for him. He scolded her and told her, “Mas quiere pa daw gale yo mio maga uban contra con ele, contra cusi para na familia (I like to spend more time with my friends than with him, better that the family).” Whatever reasons she gave to him he didn’t believe in her, and he hit her “a little” in her face and also sent her down to the house. He shouted at her every time they had an argument and often insulted her when he got angry. He would say, “Tiene yo mujer (I have a wife).” “Porque daw yo con ele ta acusa hinde de verdad (Why do I accuse him of untruths).” She keeps on thinking what she was lacking because she spent 2 months in Manila. “Amo tamen se ya anda yo Manila cay para na di mio maga anak, para puede tamen yo ayuda na di mio marido busca cen. No hay man yo pensa deja con ele cay ta reza yo y cambia le pati talli el Dios ta mira todo (That’s also why I left for Manila for my children, so that I could also help my husband look for money. I did not think of leaving him because I pray he would change and God is there [who] sees everything).” She never felt alone because she can always approach her family where she thinks that it might better resolve the problem within the family instead of reporting it to the police. If the violence will happen again she said that she will have the courage to report especially right now she knows where to seek help. She did not report the recent incident during the pandemic. “No hay ya lang para hindi causa huya y jende ya queda grande (Never mind so it wouldn’t cause shame and it [the issue] would not grow big).” Asked if she would file a case against him for VAW being a woman, S29 stated, “Jende lang siempre, cay todo suporta yo ya recivi, buen advice. 59
