Table 12 shows the distribution of respondents according to age when they
entered into marital relationship or into the common-law partnership.
Data reveals that forty (40) or forty-four point nine percent (44.9%)
entered into marriage when they were aged 17 or younger, thirty-seven
(37) or forty-one point six percent (41.6%) were aged between 18 and 30
then, eight (8) or nine percent (9%) were aged between 31 and 40 when
they wed, and four (4) or four point five percent (4.5%) were aged 41 or
even older on the day they officially tied the knot.
This means the survivors got into the relationship, living as husbands and
wives when they were still minors.
The United Nations have cited that marriages with minors are in
themselves violence against women even when they had consent because
they have not yet atained the age of majority. Philippine laws likewise
specify eighteen (18) to be the age of majority.
