Survivor 25
S25 is from Sta. Maria, who has been live-in partner for 11 years but was
separated and she has four children. She can no longer recall the specific
date or month but she remembered that she has been experienced
physical, emotional and psychological violence when they had their first
child. He slapped her.
“Masquin diutay cosas lang, ta puede gat ele comigo alsa mano (Even for
little thing, he really could raise his hand to me [either slap or in any way,
hit me]).”
He boxed, kicked her in the legs, shouted and insulted her at with
expletives. He also mocked, jeered and laughed at her in front of children,
relatives and friends.
“Jende ele ta hace miedo cay ta hace gat le (He does not threaten because
he really does [the violence].”
“Tan sisi iyo porque yo con ele yan uni (I regret that I lived with him).”
“Si jende lang por causa del maga bata, ya tarda ya iyo deja con ele. Amo yo
ya pensa man abroad por causa ta senti yo duele pati falta el income para
canamon (Were it not for the children, I might have long left him. I had
thought of going abroad because I felt hurt and the income was not enough
for us).’’
Yet she never felt alone because she sought help in the barangay when the
incident happened and she would have courage to report whenever the
violence take place again.
She never filed a case to her partner because they both decided to
separate.
Asked if she would file a case against for VAW being a woman. S25’s
response was, “Si, pati si tiene cen cay siempre pobre lang yo. Tiene pa yo
maga anak con quien dale come kay iresponsable mi marido (Yes, and if
there is money because I am just poor. I still have children whom I have to
feed because my [common-law] husband is irresponsible.”
