of 3 and 4 is given if the dependency of household or community on fishing is 41-60% and
61-80% respectively, both signifies medium sensitivity. Lastly, a score of 5 is given if the
household or community is more than 80% dependent on fishing as their source of income.
Household age structure: This variable provides information on the age structure of the
family members within the household. Those with age ranges from 15-25 years old, 26-40
years old, 41-55 years old, 56-65 years old and above 65 old years are given a score of 1, 2,
3, 4 and 5 respectively. In this criterion, the generated score varies depending on the
different age structure in each member of the family, to get the general score for this
category, average the score obtained for each member.
Health conditions: This variable provides information on the health conditions of each family
member within the household. Family member with no special health needs is given a score
of 1-2, member with a symptomatic disease/s is given a score of 3-4 and for a member with
special health needs (e.g. maintenance drug) a score of 5 is given.
2.2. SCORING FOR EXPOSURE
The exposure factors used in the Fish Vool are the frequency and degree of
exposure of the fishing grounds, household, and community to weather disturbances. Each
of these exposure factors are scored relative to the information generated from the
questionnaire given to the key informants. Scores range from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest
exposure and 5 being the highest exposure.

Fishing ground: This criterion examines the frequency and severity of exposure of fishing
ground to extreme weather disturbances (typhoon, storm, El Nino) in a given year. 0-1
occurrence of a weather disturbance that hits the fishing ground is given a score of 1 and a
score of 2 is given if the fishing ground has been hit twice. A score of 3 is given if the fishing
ground has been hit 3-4 times, and a score of 4 if it has been hit 5-6 times. Lastly, a score of
5 is given if the fishing ground has been hit for more than 6 times.
